She reported on sports for several of the largest outlets in the nation. She has covered basketball, football as well as Grand Slam Tennis for The Washington Post. Nichols joined ESPN in 2004 and spent nine years there, earning 2 Emmy Awards. She also featured on the most watched programs on ESPN including SportsCenter and NFL Countdown. She was also part of the network's Monday Night Football broadcasts as an on-line reporter. Next was CNN after which she joined Turner Sports. The first program she developed and hosted was her own show, Unguarded together with Rachel Nichols, and aired every week on CNN as well as CNN International. More than a billion people watched the show across the globe. Nichols also worked on behalf of TNT for NBA broadcasts during playoffs, as well as the broadcasts of the All-Star games. Her duties for TBS included baseball and golf coverage, as well as Final Four broadcasts by CBS. This is only the second nomination in 42 years of this award to a woman from the more than 200 nominees contestants.
