Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada, but was raised in the U.S. She's been a media critic since 1995. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which is a website which features video and posts on the representations of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and award-winning feminist for over a decade. Feminist Frequency examines the way women are represented in the popular culture. Aiming to break down the stereotypes associated with women in pop culture, she is a vocal advocate for issues relating to harassment targeted at women and other marginalized classes of the Internet environment. Sarkeesian, who has an MA in Social and Political Thinking at York University, is a well-known public speaker. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Feminist Frequency was founded in the year 2009 by Sarkeesian, university student who has been fascinated by issues that concern gender and feminism for a lengthy period of. The determined lady had planned to create a web series on gender representation in video games and found herself the target of a harassment online campaign.
